About Us

The saying has become a trite one, that the training of  dogs is not science, but and art allowing for all possibilities and probabilities. I am going on the record with the statement that it is neither. It is an accomplishment that can be learned by anyone who loves dogs. Provided they have a general knowledge of the technique, possesses a level head, a well balanced mind and an even temper.

Ron Boehme

Ron purchased his first hunting license in 1972. And dogs came into the picture shortly thereafter. Growing up in Illinois, both of his passions blossomed. His later move to Michigan gave him even more opportunities and time to develop his lifestyle. It was in Michigan that Ron found the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association: a group dedicated to fostering, improving and promoting the versatile hunting dog in North America.

In a few short years he applied for and was accepted into the apprentice judge program of NAVHDA. After being appointed, he was later then approved to become a senior judge in the organization. For the past 22 years, Ron has had the privilege of traveling from coast-to-coast, and evaluating over 25 different breeds of pointing dogs, as well as getting to know the many people who own those dogs.

These experiences were the catalyst for launching The Hunting Dog Podcast in 2015. Throughout the years of producing content, listeners favorite episodes were always those that concentrated on training. Upland Institute was created as a path to get more out of your dog in the field... to give you the tools and information in a format that you can go back to over, showing you time-test training techniques that produce results.

"For me, it's always been about the friends and dogs that we know, the ones that have passed on, and the ones that we have yet to meet."
